Crastonbury 2011

Crastonbury 2011 took place on August Bank holiday Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th.

In a word, Crastonbury 2011 was: EPIC.

Crastonbury, the free to the public music festival held in the beautiful grounds of the Craster Arms Hotel in Beadnell, Northumberland, took place for the second successive year in 2011. The event once again exceded expectation and helped raise considerable funds for it’s chosen charity the RNLI.

On the back of the success of the 2010 show we were keen to try and further raise the profile of the village by attracting more acts and offering a bigger programme, so we carefully selected a great cross section of bands from a wide variety of genres to cater for many tastes and age groups, and the reaction proved to be incredible. Event organiser James Cummings made the calls & booked the bands while Durham Events were told the the sound equipment for this years show would have to be expanded…!

The scale of the 2011 show was considerably bigger than 2010, and would not have been possible without several key contributions. Our biggest thank-you goes to Yuill Homes who provided considerable financial support for Crastonbury 2011. Yuill have been developing houses in Beadnell and saw fit to contribute some of their resources to making this event a success, and we wish to extend a massive thanks on behalf of everyone who attended the show to them for making something really special happen in Beadnell.

We were also very fortunate to get event support from RedBull and Koppaberg who provided us with a whole host of things to help make the day better. We thank them sincerely for their assistance- without the extra fridges from both parties and their help with stock we would never have managed to pull the show off. We’re sure that everyone who found themselves relaxing on a beanbag inside the inflatable marquee also appreciated RedBull’s contribution, as did the DJs who loved the RedBull DJ stand during their sets on Sunday night. As the ground crew prepared to tackle dismantling the show on bank holiday Monday we were also very grateful for contributions from Ringtons Tea which kept the team going, not to mention their kind cash donation to the RNLI.

We had a good looking line up with the Newcastle All Stars Steel Band, Atlantic B3, Jessica Avison, The TuckersLivewire ft Karen Harding, James Russell aka Jister, The Proper Boys, and XTN as well as an escapology performance from Chris Cross lined up, and were considering re booking our previous headline act Amy Housewine who had been incredible the year before. We then had an opportunity to elevate the show to a new level thanks to key contributions from several event supporters which led to us booking the internationally renowned headline act The Cuban Brothers.

Here’s a collection of several of the bands’ music from Crastonbury 2011, all available for you to hear online at the touch of a button for free thanks to the Craster Arms Soundcloud!

We’ve got a video recording of the Cuban Brothers playing live at Crastonbury 2011 in production so watch this space for the chance to re live the amazing show, climaxing with Kengo San hanging upside down from the temporary roof which you can see on youtube thanks to one of our revellers!

Roll on 2012…..!
